Synopsis for Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal waters:
Cold front sweeps across the waters today bringing scattered showers
and perhaps a thunderstorm or two. Winds will shift from the
southwest to the west, eventually turning north, by tonight. Winds
will gust to as high as 25 to 30kt on northerly flow into Thursday
morning. High pressure again builds over the waters for late week
with light winds. Low pressure brings rain chances and
breezy winds by Tuesday.
 
Coastal waters east of Ipswich Bay and the Stellwagen Bank
National Marine Sanctuary:
 
TODAY...S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 4 to
6 ft. Wave Detail: E 6 ft at 10 seconds and S 2 ft at 3 seconds.
A slight chance of rain. Vsby 1 to 3 NM this afternoon.
.TONIGHT...NW winds 20 to 25 kt. Seas 4 to 6 ft. Wave Detail: N
5 ft at 6 seconds and E 5 ft at 10 seconds.
.THU...NW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt, becoming SW
5 to 10 kt in the afternoon. Seas 4 to 6 ft, subsiding to 3 to
4 ft in the afternoon. Wave Detail: N 5 ft at 6 seconds and E
4 ft at 9 seconds, becoming NW 3 ft at 5 seconds and E 3 ft at
9 seconds.
.THU NIGHT...S winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming W after midnight. Seas
2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 2 ft at 5 seconds and E 2 ft at
8 seconds.
.FRI...N winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming E in the afternoon. Seas
around 2 ft. Wave Detail: E 2 ft at 9 seconds and N 1 ft at
4 seconds.
.FRI NIGHT...S winds 5 to 10 kt, becoming SW after midnight. Seas
around 2 ft. Wave Detail: S 2 ft at 3 seconds and E 2 ft at
8 seconds.
.SAT...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas around
2 ft.
.SAT NIGHT AND SUN...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt.
Seas 2 to 3 ft. A chance of showers.
.SUN NIGHT...SW winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas
2 to 3 ft.
 
Seas are reported as significant wave height, which is the
average of the highest third of the waves. Individual wave
heights may be more than twice the significant wave height.
