Block Island pilots have recently received soundings of the berthing area at New Haven Harbor Terminal dated June 6, 2024. These soundings indicate a substantial portion of the berthing area measured at, or below 30 feet MLW.

 

Pilots cannot knowingly navigate a vessel into an area which they know does not contain sufficient depth for the vessel therefore Block Island Pilots have elected to enact a draft limitation at Harbor Terminal of 30’00. Vessels with a draft of 28 feet or less may berth any time. Vessels with a draft between 28’01” and 30’00” feet may berth at high water or at discretion of pilot.
