Due to the possibility of gale force winds (39-73 mph) associated with Tropical Storm Milton entering Sector Mobile’s area of responsibility within 72 hours, the Captain of the Port (COTP) has ordered Port Status WHISKEY for the Ports of Panama City, Port St. Joe and the GIWW from MM 270 to MM 376 including east to St. Marks, FL. All other ports remain in Port Condition NORMAL at this time. Current weather forecasts could change within the next 12 hours. 
 
Current port and waterway status: 
 
a.            GIWW west of MM 270:                                     NORMAL
b.            GIWW from MM 270-376:                                WHISKEY
c.            Port of St. Joe                                                        WHISKEY
d.            Port of Panama City:                                           WHISKEY
e.            Port of Pensacola:                                               NORMAL
f.              Port of Mobile:                                                        NORMAL
g.            Port of Pascagoula:                                             NORMAL
h.            Port of Gulfport:                                                    NORMAL
 
At this time, all waterways in the Mobile AOR are open to all traffic with the mariner guidelines below. 
 
The COTP may increase harbor patrols and conduct preliminary surveys of all ports, vessels, and facilities to determine their present state of readiness and to identify and correct potential problems.
 
The COTP may issue additional MSIBs as the weather system approaches and Port Status’ change.  Mariners throughout the COTP Mobile AOR are encouraged to use reliable sources of information to monitor the path of Tropical Depression Four and remain prepared to take actions in accordance with the direction and severity of the storm.
