Port of Houston

July 20, 2024

Notices

Houston Ship Channel remains closed to present time. Yesterday, at approximately 1400/19th July, the tow vessel MISS PEGGY capsized and quickly sank near the Lynchburg Ferry, around Light 126 on the HSC.

The sunken vessel has been located and salvage operations are underway. For this reason, the area is very busy and while some shallow draft tows may be allowed to transit, all deep-draft ship movements are suspended.

Hopefully, the sunken vessel will be removed pm/20th at which point USCG and USACE may conduct sonar scans prior lifting draft restrictions for ship movement.

To present, pilots advise there are 23 vessels ready to depart from the upper HSC and 21 ready to arrive at facilities in the same area.

We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.
